Synopsis
In 1980s Hollywood, adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx has finally made it. But as a mysterious killer hunts Hollywood starlets, a trail of blood threatens to reveal her sinister past. Hollywood starlet Maxine puts out the cigarette that Theda Bara’s Pearl actress was inspired to name her alligator in Pearl (2022). It is actually « Until you’re known as a freak in my profession, you’re not a star. » Maxine Minx: Do you know what happened to the last person who tried to kill me?

Overall it was a good time
Some of the tone felt more like drama than horror as there are no real moments of tension or fear but I understand horror isn’t always portrayed that way. If you haven’t seen Pearl then you’ll be fine. I feel like you should at least watch X first to get some of the backstory and references. I really liked the style of the film, that glam/sleazy look and 80s vibe just went together perfectly.
Mia Goth is always worth a watch
Ti West is good at this as seen in his previous work, especially The House of Devil. X remains my favorite of the trilogy but if you’re a fan of the other two films then you’ll enjoy this. The soundtrack, costumes and performances are very well done. A24 has produced some of the most memorable horror films of the 21st century.
