Synopsis
On an island of the rich and the have-nots, teenager John B enlists his three best friends to search for a legendary treasure that is linked to his father’s disappearance. Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline and co-stars of "OBX" quiz each other on the best lines from their hit Netflix series. Filmed in Charleston, South Carolina; originally scheduled to be filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina.
So what’s not to like!?
After watching all three seasons of Outer Banks, I can’t deny that I had a blast and was entertained: each episode is filled with fast-paced adventures, treasure hunts, and villain chases, all set in exotic locations and with a few romantic entanglements. among the young and attractive cast. Well, I have my reservations too.
And of course, silly nicknames like JJ, Pope, and John B (what’s the B for?)
The events are all incredibly far-fetched and unrealistic: how this group of teenage friends manages to escape right from the police or armed criminals time and time again, often under a hail of bullets but always unscathed; how they solve mind-boggling mysteries (like hidden treasures or the location of the legendary El Dorado) with the flick of a wrist or through sheer bad luck. The young characters are obviously supposed to illustrate the importance of true friendship, but their juvenile behavior gradually gets on your nerves, with all the siblings, pals, and inevitable upside-down baseball caps. They’re all good-looking, but the acting is just right, with only Drew Starkey really standing out as the troubled Rafe, and Rudy Pankow being pretty convincing as the resourceful, ADHD JJ.
This is really more of a show for teens
, barely surpasses the realm of The Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew. As a fairly grown-up person, I probably shouldn’t watch this at all, but hey, sometimes it’s nice to go with the flow and enjoy it without having to think too much. The very last scene of season 3 set the stage for another season, and I bet I won’t be able to resist it.
